I usually don’t go to church. But  my mom kindly asked me to go with her, because the two of us are in Germany alone, and she didn’t want to go alone. When we got there, I sat down with her in the service and listened for a while. The pastor was telling us stories about people with perfect lives, who then messed up and killed themselves. It was an interesting sermon, but I have a short attention span, so I decided to start reading the bible.

I read all about how Jesus made the world, and then an idea for a new book popped into my head. I want to write about a girl who, after dying, is forced down into hell. She then has to find some sort of loophole, so that she can go up into heaven. While she figures out a way to do that, she has to live in hell. The book follows her around and shows what it is like in hell according to different religions, and also some of my own beliefs.

In school, I had a lot of free time, so I went online and started reading about the different myths and demons. I read about Egypt and the Vikings, about Satan and Belphegor. As I read more, my eyes were opened. At the same time, a wave of fear flushed over me. There were things that I saw no harm in, that were written as terrible sins. Wasting money is a sin. There’s a whole circle dedicated to it, according to the nine circles of hell (Dante Alighieri). Sloth is also a sin, the demon Abaddon is in charge of it. According to what I read, I was a horrendous person, and was most definitely going to hell.

After reading that the Hindu religion has a demon that is supposed to punish you for hurting animals, I decided that it was time for my already vegetarian diet to be vegan. In the hell of Naraka, you are boiled in hot oil, for the same amount of time as there were hairs on the animals that you killed (or were killed at your expense). I already felt bad for eating animals and animal products, but Naraka finally pushed me enough to make me change my lifestyle.

The fifth circle of Dante’s hell is reserved for people who commit sins in anger. This made me think, and I have concluded that I want to change my entire lifestyle so that I can be the best for myself, the people around me, and the world. I want to to eat right, help out in charities, and find my inner peace.

I believe that hell definitely exists. All stories and myths have some truth behind them. That is why I’ve decided to mix all kinds of hells together to create my version of hell. I think that hell is mostly exaggerated so that we are afraid and refrain from doing certain things. It definitely scared me, but hopefully for the best.
